Advantages: Great first disc

Disadvantages: Average second disc

Now 47 was the last compilation album to be released by the Now That's What I Call Music team in 2000. I quite liked this one as it featured a lot of tracks that I enjoyed and only a few that weren't really my cup of tea. Both discs impressed me in their song selection and in the track sequencing as well.

Disc 1 has 20 tracks on it, and kicks off with one of the most successful artists of the years just surrounding the turn of the millenium: Robbie Williams, with Rock DJ. Williams also features later on in the CD with Kylie in their duet Kids. Ronan Keating's Life Is A Rollercoaster and Anastacia's I'm Outta Love are two highlights for me on a good CD, although You Need Love Like I Do from Tom Jones and Heather Small seems curiously out of place in amongst such company as LeAnn Rimes and All Saints, both of whom had excellent hits on this disc.

The second disc doesn't seem as strong as the first, and I wasn't too keen on Martine McCutcheon's I'm Over You which kicks off the 22 tracks. Kylie gets her second track of the compilation with On A Night Like This, and Louise's Beautiful Mind is decent enough, and the remainder of the disc follows the trend of the Now compilations and heavily features dance and RnB music, such as Sisqo's Unleash The Dragon and Sonique's Sky. However, I'm not really a fan of the a few of the tracks on the disc, and I was surprised that some of them were on here.

Having said that, the whole 2-disc compilation is an enjoyable listen, and I do play the second disc from time to time. It's not my favourite by any means, but it is better than a lot of compilations, and the first disc is very strong, with Coldplay's Trouble ending on as strong a note as it started. Dance and RnB fans will very much like the second disc, as it does feature some well grafted tracks, they just weren't really my bag. Now 47 is currently available from amazon.co.uk for 49p for a used copy, although a new copy will cost a few pounds more.

Summary: Decent Now compilation

I've not checked out these "Now" cd's yet. Ever since I moved to the UK though, I keep seeing them, so maybe i'll pick one up on sale =)
