Advantages: Great tracks
Disadvantages: None really
Contrary to my opinion on a lot of the Now That's What I Call Music compilations, Now 49 is one of my favourites. It encompasses a wonderful selection of music from the spring and early summer of 2001, and there aresome greats on here. Both CDs contain powerful and memorable tunes from the short timespan, and are very enjoyable.
Disc 1, which contains 20 tracks, starts off very well wth the in-form Robbie Williams and Eternity, before announcing Gabrielle, Atomic Kitten and Blue's All Rise. The catchy Don't Stop Movin' from S Club 7 was one of their dancier tracks and one I really enjoyed. Outkast's fast paced vocals on Ms Jackson is a fave of mine, as is Dido's Thank You, and while I wasn't too familiar with Marti Pellow's Close To You or More Than That from The Backstreet Boys, both are recognisable and worthy of a place.
The second disc has 21 tracks on it, with some 'fun' tunes on here such as the remix of Eddy Grant's Electric Avenue and the dancier tracks such as Castles In The Sky from Ian Van Dahl and Fragma's You Are Alive. The album ends with some good RnB tracks from artists such as Damage, Sisqo and Melanie B's Lullaby, and the whole feel of the disc is well compiled.
Overall, I give this one the thumbs up. I wasn't completely familiar with all of the tracks by name, but once I heard them I recognised them, and they are all worthy of places. This compilation is well constructed, and the border of the tracks seems to fit very well. Often, I find that it jumps around too much, but the songs seem to flow into one another very well. Now 49 is available currently from amazon.co.uk for £4.94 for a brand new copy.
Summary: One of the better Now CDs
