I doubt even the most obscure music fans and listeners will have heard of this band, and it is a shame. I actually won this CD from an underground radio site. I was looking for some web sites that I could listen to some cool music on, and I stumbled across this cool little site, so I listened for a while, liking what I was hearing I decided to explore the site, their was a competition link, so I clicked it and entered, couple of months later a CD comes through the post.

Well, I just want to point out that it was Underground radio, so these are some of the most obscure bands ever, on the site you will get maybe two songs you have heard in a day, well I won this CD by ‘Swearing at Motorists’.

Well my first reaction was not a good one, I thought the name of the band was good, but would probably be really heavy rock/metal, well this is where the motto ‘Never judge a book by it’s cover’ comes in useful. I put the CD in the player, and was greeted by a nice soothing acoustic guitar, it was happily welcomed.

How can I best describe this band, it would seem they are a small band, the lead singer plays the guitar, as well as singing, he is named Dave Doughman. Don Thrasher on the drums, and would seem to sing support vocals, they also have many guests on the album, an organ player among other things. It is difficult due to this to say how many people there are in this band.

Dave Doughman, the lead singer has a very individual voice, just what I like to see in this type of music, oh dear, I have not even classified what type of music this is, well I am really bad at choosing what gender of music bands fit into, but I guess Indie, and alternative. I have to warn you that is pretty much a wild stab in the dark, but they are really light rather than my usual heavy type of music.

Okay, well, the album is short, it is only about 30 minutes long, but there is about 13 tracks on the album, thus meaning I will
not be able to do a walk through on the album, as many of the songs are much too short to review and would just bore users.

Being an unknown band I will give you my favourite song to look for, if you want to attempt to find some songs by this band then go for it, this is how these bands make it big in the first place. Take a look for:

Swearing at Motorists – Thin Man From North Main
Swearing at Motorists – Flying Pizza

Both are well worth a download.

I guess if I wanted to compare them to someone, I would say some of the UK acts which are around at the moment, I am talking about the bigger groups such as The Stereophonics, and I have to admit that one or two of the songs have reminded me of the giants Oasis.

I know some of you reading this will be taking my advice where as some of you will apathetically scrolling down and giving it a rating, but I would try and push any of you reading this to check out this band, or if you can’t find anything they are on ‘Secretly Canadian’ records. Happy Hunting.

Thanx for your time.

Mr.T

Whoops!! Caught me out there. I was just scrolling down your opinino to give it a rating (as I didn't think the type of music you described would appeal to me) when you said 'don't just scroll down and give me a rating' - are you psychic? Anyway, your opinion would make me consider the band if I was into that sort of music (I'm an 80's relic - LOL).
