Although they dabbled with different musical styles they never strayed far from their folk rock roots therefore most of their songs have a very recognisable vibe to them. But that is also one of the problems, after a while the songs become a little bit samey and too easy to tune out. I'm not sure many could listen to these CDs back to back but for the occasional listen, for dipping into and out of they're perfect. There's something reassuring, something comforting about knowing that Simon & Garfunkel are out there. They're like that relative you used to see all the time but now but haven't visited for a while. You still like them but not quite enough to actually make the effort to pay a call; it's enough to know that they're there if you need them. You can go years without listening to one of their tracks but when you do it's always a pleasure. This three disc anthology is part greatest hits and part retrospective.
