Rating:
Ones appreciation of this epic double live album will hinge upon whether or not a heavier and more 'metal edge' is well received, as well of course the set list which includes plenty of material from the previous Falling Into Infinity album, as well as the classic A Change of Seasons EP. Fans of older material will be able to enjoy strong renditions of Caught in a Web, Peruvian Skies, Pull Me Under and Metropolis - the inclusions of these four on disk two certainly strengthens the album, although I would like to have seen a few more 'greatest hits' type of numbers on the album. Other than this, the set list reflects the period in which the band ... Read the complete review

Dream Theater’s first official live album ‘Live at the Marquee,’ released in 1993, presented New York’s pioneers of progressive metal at the start of their consistently successful career, but five years and a number of albums, EPs and record label changes later, ‘Once in a Livetime’ presented a more contemporary overview of the band, catching them right before they moved into seriously ambitious territory with 1999’s epic concept album ‘Metropolis part 2: Scenes from a Memory.’ Perhaps at a cost to the overall quality, Once in a Livetime catches Dream Theater on the start of an upward climb: primarily promoting a studio album that was only moderately well ... Rating:
1998 saw the release of this killer double live album ‘Once In a Livetime’. This album is a well decent selection of some of their studio material with a few blinding keyboard, drum and guitar solos thrown in for good measure. The track listing looks a bit like this; CD1 Track 1: The Crimson Sunrise (taken from ‘A Change of Seasons’ 1995) Track 2: Innocence (taken from ‘A Change of Seasons’ 1995) Track 3: Puppies On Acid (taken from ‘Falling Into Infinity’ 1997) Track 4: Just Let Me Breathe (taken from ‘Falling Into Infinity’ 1997) Track 5: Voices (taken from ... Products similar to Once In A Livetime - Dream The...
Vii - At Vance
More fast and slow power metal with an even more substantial eighties touch.
Disappointing change of direction, with less focus on neoclassical guitars.
Yes: Expanded And Remastered - Yes
The first album by a great group
Its actually terrible.
Worlds Collide - Apocalyptica
'Last Hope' is good, thrashy, old-school Apocalyptica.
The band is all too happy to abandon its identity.
Time And A Word: Expanded And Remastered - Yes
Better than the first with some great relistenable tracks
The unique Yes style still not shown through
The Yes Album: Expanded And Remastered - Yes
A new line up with superstar Steve Howe and a new approach to songwriting
Sometimes it just doesn't work - this isn't 100% masterpiece
Fragile - Yes
Three seminal tracks, some of the most amazing playing you'll hear on record
The individual member solo pieces get in the way a bit
Eclipse - Amorphis
Skilfully combines the band's disparate styles under a talented new singer.
Over-reliance on slow, gothic rock pieces becomes tiresome.
Blasfemia Eternal - Ancient Rites
Clear signs of advancement.
Not quite sure where they're headed.
Andiamo - Authority Zero
Successfully experimental punk rock, with incredible variety.
Most of the best elements are borrowed from earlier bands.
Plays Metallica By Four Cellos - Apocalyptica
Fantastic take on some classic Metallica songs.
Shame the album is only 8 songs long not 88.
