Advantages: A definitive and comprehensive collection of a truly special band.
Disadvantages: None at all.
After four studio albums, Placebo, one of Britain's most creative but criticised bands, unleashed a best of which chronicled the singles from 1996-2004.
This is a very comprehensive collection, the only one it misses is their very first single 'Come Home', which although being brilliant, isn't what I'd consider a significant single release, so it's not too important.
On here you have all the classic hits such as 'Nancy Boy', 'Pure Morning', 'You Don't Care About Us', 'Every You Every Me', 'Special K', 'The Bitter End' and 'Special Needs'.
Although all of the above mentioned tracks are fantastic and rightfully crowned classics in the alternative music scene, their most overlooked singles for me personally are 'Bruise Pristine' and 'This Picture', both of which are utterly mind-blowing.
The album is in chronological order of release, so gives a good guide to how the band developed and grew throughout their career up until that point.
My favourite is 'Pure Morning', after years of hearing it around and trying to find out what it was, I tracked it down and was so amazed that I was prompted to try out more stuff by this band. I slowly got into them and never looked back since, they truly changed my life.
This collection isn't entirely necessary if you have all of their studio albums already, unless for collection purposes or for the new teacks included. I personally feel any fan of alternative or rock music who isn't familiar with Placebo should use this as a starting point. They are a unique and special band, there is nobody out there like them and they don't get anywhere near the credit they deserve... so get it!
Summary: This is an essential purchase.
