Advantages: Pure Rock
Disadvantages: Not many songs on the album
When it comes to rock, one of the first few bands that may pop into your mind is the foo-fighters and the reason for this is that they have been around for a few years now (nearly 10 years!) and have accumulated thousands of fans during this time including moi!
I must admit even though the foos have been around for nearly 10 years i have only been listening to their music during the last five years. I first started listening to them when their previous album 'There is nothing left to lose' came out (2.11.1999) and very soon became a fan of them. Three years later (22.10.2002) their most recent album 'One by one' came out and again i loved it, of which i have listened to their past albums and can officially say im a big fan of the foos.
The foos:
Dave Grohl: guitar/vocal
Nate Mendel: bass
Taylor Hawkins: drums
Chris Shiflett: guitar
The album 'One by one' consists of eleven tracks and these are as follows:
1. All my life:
This song was one of the few tracks on the album that made it to the charts, unfortunately missing the number one hotspot.
The song starts of as a medium paced song with the same continuous notes from a guitar, with dave talking/singing and the song then blasting into a fast paced song with the drums&bass and guitar.
An excellent song which should definitely be listened to if you already haven't heard it which i personally think should have made it to the number one hotspot!
2. Low:
Another excellent song with a weird tune to it consisting of the same notes from the guitar and same beats from the drum&bass which soon changes during the chorus. A fast paced song with a lot of energy to it of which is one of my favourites on this album. (The video to this is extremely funny with Dave Grohl and Jack Black commonly known in the film 'Skool of rock' dressed up as women in a motel dancing to this song!)
3. Have it all:
This starts of with the same notes from the guitar as well as a fast beat from the drums&bass soon blasting into the chorus with a floorless high-pitched tune to it. Around 4.01 the guitar, drums and bass take a centre solo role in the song - an excellent picece of art. A brilliant fast beat song which should definitely be listened to.
4. Times like these:
A medium paced song slightly slower than the previous songs consisting of the guitar playing the same coninuous notes at the beginning of the song accompanied with the drums and bass soon entering into the chorus. A brilliant song which was in the charts.
5. Disenchanted Lullaby:
A slow song with a strong 60's style feel to it with high pitched notes from the guitar kicking of with a medium paced chorus that turns loud with fierce singing from Dave which is one of the brilliant things about this song.
One of my favourites on this album.
6. Tired of you:
A slow song throughout with the use of the guitar accompanied by Dave's voice, a very chilled out song which sort of gets you thinking about life in general.
7. Halo:
A medium/fast paced song with the use of a light guitar and heavy taps from the drums and bass. In the chorus Dave really lets his heart out in the chorus of this song with fierce singing saying 'Halo, god only knows'
8. Lonely as you:
One of the only slow songs on this album that would more or less be classified as romantic to start of with and then blasting of into an excellent chorus with loud a guitar, drums&bass accompaniied with Dave pouring his heart into the song.
A brilliant song to listen to.
9. Overdrive:
A fastbeat song with high pitched notes from the guitar and Dave's voice. A brilliant song to listen to when you're on the move as it has a lot of energy to it making you want to release it out of your system.
10. Burn away:
A slow/medium paced song with fairly heavy guitars used as well as slow beats from the drums and bass. Another nice song to chill out to.
11. Come back:
A totally different style of music on this song but of course it is still rock. This song really reminds me of queens of the stone age during the beginning of it but as soon as it gets to the chorus we know it's the foos again. This song is slow/medium paced with the notes from the guitar being high pitched and quite heavy to give that feel of rock. During the chorus Dave really let's his voice shout the chorus 'I will come back'.
Around 3.05 and 6.15 of the song we get a feel of the 60's style music and then turning quiet with a piano and guitar around 3.37.
Lovely song to listen to whilst in bed where you can release all of your energy to start of with and then fall asleep as you feel so fatigue.
This album is recommended to the ages of 15+ tp whatever ages as one of the tracks contains minor swearing as well as the rests of the tracks being slightly mind boggling - making you think of life or making you just want to party!
This is mainly an album to listen to in the privacy of your own home as the majority of the songs are fast beat and if you want to party to them, what better place to do it in the privacy of your own home? With some of the tracks, because they're so relaxing you could fall alseep to them in bed or listen to them in a relaxed environment.
Evaluation of the album:
Most foo fans would say that this album is not as memorable as the previous one and i agree but the songs on this album are definitely worth listening to and even better this album is definitely worth buying.
If you haven't listened to any foo-fighter songs or this album and you like rock then i recommend that you do because it is extremely good and will have you wanting more from them.
This album is mainly for foo-fighter fans or those who love rock in general and if u don't like either then i suggest to you not to listen to this album as you will just get annoyed!
Enjoy and happy listening :) :) :)
