This early Beck effort is funny, original, subversive, and quite possibly not your cup of tea if you've become a fan through Midnite Vultures. It's got some absolute belters on it - Loser and Beercan springing instantly to mind - but the majority of the tracks are slow-paced, weird-noise-filled acoustic guitar oddities, notable more for their lyrical content than for their musical appeal. If you like Beck because he makes you want to dance, you probably won't find a great deal on here to interest you - but if you like Beck primarily because he makes you laugh (as I do) then this is as essential a purchase as Odelay (which I prefer because it makes me laugh ...
