Released in 1995, this album shows the band going through a changing. The band's guitarist John Frusciante had quit the band after the mammoth success of 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and for a few years, the Chili's sort of drifted through some new guitarists, but none coming up to scratch. Eventually the band managed to get hold of Jane's Addiction guitarist and general Goth weirdo Dave Navarro. With Dave Navarro on guitars, 'One Hot Minute' is very different from other Red Hot Chilli Peppers' albums. This is the second Chili Peppers album I bought. I first got "Blood Sugar Sex Magic", and wasn't really impressed. Of course, the standout track is "Under The Bridge", and didn't really know enough about them to know what to expect. I was a bit too funky for my liking. It was some time later that I bought "My Friends", and that and its B-sides convinced me to buy this album. It opens with "Warped", which was the first single, I think. This is kinda heavy, but a good intro. Next is "Aeroplane", a return to the funky Chilis which initially put me off. This song has a catchy singalong chorus, but I don't really ... With Dave Navarro on guitars, 'One Hot Minute' is very different from other Red Hot Chili Peppers' albums. Here is a guitar-driven alternative-rock band that put together a great batch of songs, yet except for Anthony's distinctive vocals, it's hard to tell these guys from a lot of bands who put out great albums in the '90's. One hot minute is nowhere near as good as the earlier album 'blood sugar sex magik' or the later album 'califonication' but still has some appeal.
