Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow - Funkadelic
by XICripZ - written on 10/06/09 (Very useful, 34 readings)
Rating:
"Free Your Mind... And Your A*s Will Follow" came out in 1970, and was the second album from the George Clinton-led band, Funkadelic , who continued to show what progression they could make in the world of Psychedelic Rock to drive things towards the imminent Funk takeover later on in the decade. It came out within a year of their debut, and an album form the other project, Parliament (who used the same band (George Clinton, Ray Davis, Fuzzy Haskins, Calvin Simon, Grady Thomas), but chose to direct their stuff towards Psychedelic Soul instead). 1. "Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow" To begin the album, you find them performing a track which has ...

Maggot Brain - Funkadelic

Rating:
alongside strange sound effects. It is an effective one and typical of them as they have Fulwood holding it together with a consistent percussion backing which hypes them up through the track. Five Stars Personally, I saw is particular as the best release from Funkadelic (and Parliament) up to this point. It is the most consistent one from them, and in spite of the fact that they do experiment a fair bit with the kind of things they come with for each track, they manage to keep the standards high throughout as they appear to lessen the Psychedelic aspects of the music ...

Rating:
My Folks 5. Super Stupid 6. Back In Our Minds 7. Wars Of Armageddon Maggot Brain This track is one of the best solos recorded by long time Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel. He has been remembered by many in the music press for this one song, and is considered by most to be one of his finest works. He was told by George Clinton to play the first half of the solo as if his mother had just died, and the second half as if he d just found out she was still alive. This is a song that has to be heard to be believed. Can You Get To That This is less funk, and more a gospel rock track, featuring lead vocals from Garry Shider. Starting on an acoustic, then being joined by ...

Products similar to One Nation Under A Groove - Fu...
Thrash Metal - Blood Tsunami
Straightforward and accessible with enjoyable riffs and solos
Somewhat generic
Ten - Blitzkrieg
The band comfortably integrates into the nineties.
Later songs sound similar.
Sex Reflex - Bile
May have made Krztoff some more money.
Alienates more serious fans.
Resurrection Through Carnage - Bloodbath
Should please fans of the early Swedish death bands.
At times, sounds like a cheap imitation.
Nightmares Made Flesh - Bloodbath
Improved energy, technicality and fun factor.
Still an imitation at its core.
Insect Song - Beyond The Embrace
Improved vocal style, and less exclusively derivative of melodeath bands.
Songs lack the variety and energy of the previous album.
Demonic Electronic - Bile
The return of the darkness and evil.
Not as varied as previous works.
Copy Machine - Bile
You may know the original songs...
...but these covers are nothing special.
Breeding Death - Bloodbath
Crunchy, unpretentious old school death metal with great riffs and vocals
Short, even for an EP
Biohazard - Biohazard
Original fusion of hardcore punk and hip hop that works quite well.
Messier than later releases.
