So you have the rather bland and doll like Avril Lavigne, the feisty, yet do gooder that is Kelly Clarkson and the loud and brash P!nk all taking up space in the pop/rock camp so cue Katy Perry. With a profound stage presence that is usually down to her glamorous outfits and outrageous stunts the singer has created quite a stir since she became an internet sensation with the tongue in cheek 'Ur So Gay' back in 2007 and of course the worldwide smash hit 'I Kissed A Girl' which provoked as much negativity towards its gay orientated theme as it did sales especially considering Ms Perry's strict religious upbringing. With so much controversy surrounding her it was ... Read the complete review

Isn't it funny how times change? Way back in the mid-1970s, Elton John announced he was bisexual and the world reacted by buying his records in smaller quantities than before. Thirty years later, Katy Perry releases "I Kissed a Girl", hinting at bisexual tendencies and it storms to the top of the charts and results in her being overhyped to a much greater extent than her talent deserves. These days, it's more of a disappointment when she admitted that she has never actually kissed a girl. Ultimately, artists that get the kind of hype Katy Perry does rarely turn out to deserve it. She's certainly come a long way from an absolute unknown to ... Read the complete review

+ THE INTRODUCTION + I first became aware of Californian Katy Perry when Hollywood gossip queen and my future Best-Friend-Forever (BFF) Perez Hilton was raving about her eyebrow-raising and track 'I Kissed A Girl'. Admittedly, I ignored his sound advice to give her a try (I tend to get driven away from anything over-hyped or over-marketed... if something is that good, why on earth are you spending so much on advertising?!). Don't ask me why I did... perhaps I was in the mood for looking at boobies, perhaps I was drunk (both are incredibly likely), but I went online and watched the video to judge the track for myself and instantly loved it (the girls writhing ... Katy Perry- music video extra to superstar in no time whatsoever. Most people will not have realised that before she released her first single she appeared in the video for Gym Class Heroes- Cupid's Choke as the main love interest. Not long after this she released her first single 'I Kissed a Girl'. This song features on the album. The tracks- 1. One of the boys Song Analysis- This song is an up-tempo song about a girl who wants to be noticed as someone who is attractive to the opposite sex but because she acts like the boys they just see her as one of them. Favourite Lyric - I wanna be a flower, not a dirty weed I ... Read the complete review

I bought this album on the strength of the incredibly catchy, Max Martin produced ''I kissed a girl'' (who happened to have produced/co-wrote kelly clarkson's ''my life would suck...'' and also ''So What'' by P!nk) and was expecting an album full of similar infectious tracks. i was wrong. this is a prime example of record exec's catching 'Let's release the strongest song off the album first so the public don't know the rest is full of absolute dross' syndrome. well thanks Virgin for cheating me out of my hard earned £10. the problem doesn't lie solely of Perry's shoulders, her voice is substantial enough on CD (live however, ...
