Advantages: Funky sound, mature lyrics

Disadvantages: Fewer 'standout' tracks than on later albums

I have been a fan of the Sugababes since their second album Angels With Dirty Faces - I wasn't really into them when their first album came out (being a bit behind the times!) but bought their album after I'd already owned two or three of their albums. Despite the lineup changes and the fact that this was their debut album, released when they were about 16, I was pleasantly surprised.

Track Listing

1. Overload

2. One Foot In

3. Same Old Story

4. Just Let It Go

5. Look At Me

6. Soul Sound

7. One Touch

8. Lush Life

9. Real Thing

10. New Year

11. Promises

12. Run For Cover

This is a great album, mixing pop, RnB and garage to create a funky laid back sound. Highlights include the title track Overload, the Christmassy-song-with-a-difference New Year, and my personal favourite Run for Cover. There isn't a bad song on the album. The style is perhaps more consistent than on any of their other albums: on the other hand, on a first listen it is harder to differentiate between the tracks and there are fewer tracks that immediately stand out. However it's worth sticking with it, especially if you are a fan of Sugababes' later stuff, as it's well worth it.

Summary: Sugababes' debut album
