Advantages: great songs

Disadvantages: kids - its probably my least favourite

The debut album from MGMT 'Oracular Spectacular' is one of the most acclaimed albums of 2007-2008.

Oracular Spectacular was released digitally in October 2007 and it wasn't until January of 2008 that the album was released on CD.

This really is a fantastic album with some really catchy hooks and intelligent progressive melodic structures. I didn't really discover this band until one day I stumbled across 'Electric Feel'. What a song, I tried to imagine what their influences must have been to come up with this track and could find some similarities to some 70's music.

It has been cited that the MGMT's main influences are David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, T-Rex and indeed the music of the 70's but this is not to be taken literally as MGMT are very diverse and not afraid to experiment.

I have heard that they actually came up with the name 'Oracular Spectacular' by typing in the phrase 'Mystic Bullshit' in google and looking for alternatives!

Andrew Van Wyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, the two protagonists of MGMT (formerly known as the management) never expected to reach number 8 in the UK charts and certainly did not expect it to go gold in five countries and platinum in two others.
