Hellhammer (the drummer) occasionally beats the drums at such a pace that some people consider it to be a drum machine, admittedly it's amazingly fast and superbly well timed but I do tend to find it monotonous.
Tracks like Illuminate Eliminate and A Wise Birthgiver definitely have a very eerie feel to them, haunting and marauding they would be ideal for soundtracks for slow, creepy...more |

There will always be quite a lot of strange feeling surrounding Mayhem, a band whose notoriously selfish and satanic guitarist was killed and whose original vocalist killed himself. Their satanic imagery on stage does little to change that. Mayhem have come to define Black Metal and their latest album Ordo Ad Chao won numerous plaudits from various critics, I'm not all that wild about it though. Great pagan atmosphere. 
Poor production spoils effect of instruments. Creative and distinctive fusion of metal and symphony. Acted interludes are unnecessary and distracting. An excellent rock album, fantastic from start to finish. Some may be put off by the musical change in direction that Avenged Sevenfold took here. Great album, story based theme gives the album a rebellious feel of old Story looses its way at some points .. but not for long A chance to hear a great Metal band really pushing the limits as far as possible Warning may cause severe neck pains .
