Showbiz was genius, so what more do you expect? It's assumed that one mind-blowing album can't be followed by another equally impressive compilation of tracks but it's obvious that Origin of Symmetry has defied any preconcieved ideas critics may have put forward. I bought Origin of Symmetry in, of all places, the South of France about 2 weeks after it was released. I'd heard Plug In Baby and New Born several times on the TV and radio and was excited to see what Muse had come up with for the new album. So I bought it, and whilst travelling home in the car I was amazed. Newborn is a brilliant opener, its gentle yet apprehensive start following through to the huge and dominating riff that makes it the excellent track it is. Bliss catches you round the neck and refuses to let go. Space Dementia is true to its name - beautiful piano work mixes with odd vocal and guitar moments. Hyper Music's angsty riffs match the mood of any angry teenager. Plug In Baby is just simply amazing. Micro Cuts is insane - a wonderful combination of rich vocals and a thundering bass. Screenager's creepy lyrics echo into your mind and grind holes into your subconscience. Darkshines is pure Muse. Feeling Good is the best cover I have ever heard - the band really know how to take a song and adapt it to their style. Meglomania sums up the album in two words. Pure brilliance.

- 19/08/02 Great Review! I am not one to criticize because I am a bit of a newbie but you didn't mention anything about the drumming in your review. Very good though. |
