Advantages: Good songs
Disadvantages: 1 or 2 poor songs
Muse are my definition of ?brilliant Alternative Rock?. They have a great way of blending different songs from different styles of music in to one album, just like, the less popular, ?Showbiz?. Here is my report on the rock album of the year (or possibly not? ?Take off your pants and jacket? ring a bell?). 1) New born ? what can I say, sheer, utter, brilliance. An excellent song, which deserved more credit, it should?ve been number one in the charts. This album became top of the ?rock? charts immediately after this song was put on sale!!! 2) Bliss is not an easy song to respect, so much like a Christmas backing tune, I?m surprised it wasn?t sold as the ?Opening theme to the Queen?s speech?! 3) Space Dementia is an intriguing song with great dramatic singing and music, a definite contender for New Born?s understudy. In my top three for certain. 4) Hyper Music? great, outstanding music, shoddy lyrics but nevertheless, a pretty descent song. You may find this song has ?Slipknot? music but ?Shawaddywaddy? lyrics, bad combination. 5) Plug in baby, crucifies the idea of buying alternative rock, it?s awful. 6) Citizen Erased, great electronic guitar entrance to the song. The best opening on the album, but its 7 minutes 19 seconds long, I could eat 15 crackers in that time (not that you really care). 7) Micro cuts, this has a sort of ?Uncle Kracker? entrance to the song, don?t know why, it just does, at about one minute through the song it sounds like ?Kid Rock? producing music with a gospel church choir standing by his side, dodgy blend of music. No real lyrics, weird. 8) Screenager cannot be classed as alternative anything let-a-lone rock. It is absolutely nothing to do with rock, alternate music? any music for that fact, it is just a bloke standing there without a microphone, practising the opening of ?New born?, not though this song has any lyrics from New born, it was just a poor joke. 4 minutes an
d 20 seconds of? erm? indescribable rhythm. 9) Darkshines, sound?s like Muse vs. Michael Jackson at first. Completely alternative, throughout, totally unlike Screenager. 10) Feeling Good, is a really good example of typical ?Muse?. The most ?Muse? like track on the album, couldn?t do too much better my self. 11) Megalomania, repetitive backing beat, but pretty descent lyrics, (pretty being the key word). On around 2 minutes through the song there is a descent outburst of true ?Muse. Also you will get ?Muse TV?, which is cool, overall a good rock album, a few weak tracks but overall, an above standard album.

- 02/04/02 Could do with more information again. Doesn't say much about the album in general, and your track descriptions are pretty vague.

- 02/04/02 Good review of the album, I'm an alternative rock fan, and I partcularly like Muse :-) I feel they deserve a lot more chart success though. |
