He also recorded extensively with bass and drums, with Brown again on bass and (mostly) Ed Thigpen hitting things. Oscar Peterson doesn't really fit conveniently into one jazz style or another in the way that Charlie Parker (bebop) or Duke Ellington (swing) do. But the one thing you can always be sure of is that he never stops swinging for a second. His infectious playing guarantees tapping feet among even the most apathetic listeners, and it's this universal appeal that makes him an excellent starting point for putative jazz fans.
