I do like to try out new indie bands every so often and after hearing Maximo Park on the Radio 1 live lounge I decided to buy their album Our Earthly Pleasures. I think the band hail from Newcastle and certainly on some of the songs you can detect a Geordie accent from lead singer Paul Smith. In all they are a five piece band with Tom English on drums, Duncan Lloyd on guitar, Archis Tiku on bass and Lukas Wooller on keyboards. Their style is guitar based rock music and some of heir music has some good energy levels to it and I mst say I really enjoyed this album as there is a good range of songs on it and the lyrics are clear enough for you to be ... Style/Influences Maximo Park belongs to the explosive new genre entering the music scene. Sometimes called pop-punk, sometimes indie-rock Maximo Park gives a thoroughly enjoyable sound. It has a solid foundation of hard rock, quirkily combined with an element of punk that allows Maximo Punk to stand out from other bands who tend to verge mainly towards one sound. Yet Maximo Park has created a fusion of these styles as they have both been positive influences. The band only ever uses subtle vocal melodies and harmonies and always avoid the making of mere noise and although the lead singer’s accent is very prominent I think this is individual and is ... ~~Introduction~~ Maximo Park have the privilege of holding 7 places out of 10 of my most played songs on iTunes, which has been the state for at least 6 months now. There is a reason for this is that whatever mood I'm in, I always feel like listening to them. Sometimes I don't feel like listening to some of my other favourite bands, but Maximo Park sound good whatever mood you're in. The band is from Newcastle, and their frontman sings with a very distinct Geordie accent. They first came to fame through their first album, A Certain Trigger, which came out in 2005. It's a great album, but just not comparable with it's successor, Our Earthly Pleasures, ... Read the complete review

I love this album, its really catchy and with thoughproking lyrics at the same time. The current line up of the band is that of a five piece Tom English - drums Duncan Llyod - Guitars Paul Smith - Vocals Archis Tiku - Bass Lukas Wooller - Keyboard Track by Track Listing --------------------------- 1) Girls who play guitars - An excellent start from the band. A nice guitar rift leads in to a nice melody. This song is based on a couples past experiences about dreaming about girls who play guitars or talking about plans in tiny bars. A really good way to kick off the album and a song that is played in indie/rock ... Read the complete review

Our Earthly Pleasures is the second album from amazing North Eastern indie rockers Maxïmo Park. To give a very brief description, the band consists of five members, who collected together and formed in Newcastle, England and they are mainly classed as a band from the genre referred to as Indie Rock. A bit more of an extensive description of the band can be found in my review of their first album, 'A Certain Trigger'. To save you from having to read the same information in two reviews, please just check out the first for band information. Our Earthly Pleasures was released on the second of April, 2007. Two weeks previous to the album, on March 19, their ... Read the complete review

A diversely different album which provides great listening pleasure
Must be listened to in its entirety to be fully appreciated
