Advantages: Good depth

Disadvantages: Sounds very similar throughout

After Maximo Park's first album I was expecting more of the same and they provided it in sorts. The songs on this album live up to the fast paced nature of the first album but they have changed to sound a bit too similar to several other bands currently around. Don't get me wrong the album is very good but it just disappointed me slightly as they provided something a bit different with their first album.

The start of the album is very strong containing some of the better songs like 'Our Velocity', 'Girls Who Play Guitars' and 'Books From Boxes' all of which are fast paced and contain good lyrics as well as being quite catchy.

The rest of the album is good as well but all of it can tend to blend into one as is the same problem that was with the first album. However this is only a minor downside and if you listen to one off songs they will enthrall you with their fairly unique style and catchy tunes.

I would recommend this album as well as their first album, this album is an improvement over the last in the fact their sound has matured and the album has greater depth to it. However it is slightly worse in the fact they sound rather like a few other bands in the current circuit.

Summary: Good to dip into now and again
