In Our Gun - Gomez

Rating:
friend, Dajon. The name “Gomez” came about when they were playing a gig as an un-named band. They made a sign for a friend whose surname was Gomez saying,” Gomez – The gig is here”. People mis-interpretated the sign as a declaration of the bands name, and so it stuck. And so, after that little history lesson, we move on to the album itself… Gomez – In our gun. Shot Shot. Starts fairly slowly, then immediately jumps into a quirky guitar riff, followed by vocals and a drumbeat featuring wind instruments that quickly identifies itself as the chorus. This song fairly flows along at quite a rapid pace, but ends ...

"Rex Kramer" takes us to a smoky bar in the mid-west. Grabs the acoustic, plugs in the old analogue synths and covers old John Martin songs. Its Gomez 2002 and rather than joining the electroclash movement they've still got their heads firmly stuck in the past. Forget the digital revolution. Gomez are the types that wouldn't know the difference between MP3's and DVD's. They inhabit a world where TV's have 4 channels and Batman still went Perkow, Thwack and crunch. "Detroit Swing 66" knocks us round the head with an intro straight-out of the Prodigy's "Firestarter" before developing into a stop-start disjointed ...

Liquid Skin - Gomez

I'd been aware of Gomez since the won a Mercury Music Prize for album of the year in 1998 (with their debut, "Bring It On"). I'd never listened to them a lot, but every now and then I'd catch them on late-night radio, MTV-2, or playing live on "Later" with Jools Holland. Then, a couple of weeks ago, as we were tidying up our office, one of my colleagues put on this album: "Liquid Skin" Right from the very first track "Hangover", I was hooked. With its jangly guitar work and up-beat blues rhythm, it feels like it has stepped straight off the streets of New Orleans. The second song, "Revolutionary Kind" ...

Hip-Hop & Rap - 2007
Frances The Mute - The Mars Volta
Intense jazz-rock-metal-prog-fusion, a CD to drink with caution
Will sound like a complete mess on the first listen
Food And Liquor: Parental Advisory - Lupe Fiasco
Original
Pretty much average throughout
Daudi Baldrs - Burzum
Some nice ideas, would make a fair (early) video game soundtrack.
Incomplete ideas is all that they are.
Burzum - Burzum
Highly enjoyable black metal from a supremely talented one-man-band.
Low production values and shrieking vocals will put off casual listeners.
Behemoth Satanica - Behemoth
Convincingly and skilfully heavy, in a mind-melting sense.
Unfortunate departure from their previous black metal sound to something more concerned with volume.
The Cool - Lupe Fiasco
A couple of good tunes
No big single. Lots of poor tracks
