As a generous taster of their forthcoming mammoth double-album concept project, Florida heavy metal band Iced Earth released this four-track E.P. of mostly exclusive material on June 4th, essentially an extended single of ‘Ten Thousand Strong,’ a song from the forthcoming album, but complimented by controversial re-recordings of older material with the more recent singer, Tim “The Ripper” Owens. Iced Earth’s tendency to re-write history and essentially disregard their past triumphs in favour of promoting the strength of their current incarnation has been in evidence since Matt Barlow first joined in 1994, and is the band’s most consistently irritating feature. ...
