Advantages: Every track is fantastic and copies can be picked up fairly cheaply now
Disadvantages: None
I was introduced to this album by my brother shortly after it came out. I had vaguely heard of Coldplay, but didn't really consider buying the album. After one listening I was absolutely hooked.
We all know that they have become one of the largest bands on the planet but I think even on this album you can tell they have a really distinct and original sound.
Eventhough this album is now over eight years old I regularly play it on my i-pod and is still probably my favourite Coldplay album, though Viva la Vida is starting to come close.
Every track on this album is fantastic and could have been released as a single in its own right, obviously most will be aware of Trouble and Yellow - which is certainly included in my top ten favourite songs. However it is the strength of the remaining tracks that make this album so strong, the vocals on "spies " are absolutely haunting.
The tracks are not over produced and so you get a very raw and true sound - you get the opportunity to hear skillful guitar playing and the strength of Chris Martin's singing.
If perhaps you have "got into" Coldplay in their later years do go back and visit this album - it is not a weak first album and I was worried for a while that I had already heard the best that Coldplay could offer, but viva la vida has let me see there is still a lot left in Coldplay
Summary: A great first album - revist if you have already heard it and go and buy iy if you haven't
