Advantages: Great songs, Brilliant voice

Disadvantages: Bit short

Winner of Best Album at the Brits and various other awards, this album caused a fair stir in the year 2000 and 2001. But is it that good? Yes, it bloody well is, don't be so damn negative! Now sit back and relax while I take you through the album.

Don't Panic is a sublime opening track, with a beautiful chorus. Pity it's only 2.17 long as it whizzes by anyway. Instantly dragged me into this album by the scruff of my neck. An amzing video for this song aswell.

Shiver is an amazingly fast-paced song with, in my opinion, the best use of Chris Martin's voice on the album. This one will have you jumping around the room especially with THAT explosive chorus. Not half bad!

Spies is a haunting melody with a strumming guitar and creepy vocals. Unlike anything else on the album, but after a bit of listening to, it has become one of my favourites on the album. A great finish with high pitched vocals. How does he do that?

Sparks is a very basic track but that is what makes it so noteworthy. It's a very lazy and laid back tune, which I love seeing as I'm a Gomez fan ;0) Just lie back, listen and drift away. Luvverly!

The tune that got them noticed is next up. Yellow has some of the first signs of electric guitar on the album, and some great drumming to boot. With an exquisite chorus, and THOSE vocals again, this was an instant classic.

Trouble became the first song that made me want to play piano. I'm not going to learn, but I do want to play it and that's all that counts! Gorgeous vocals which ooze sorrow are really the best part of this number.

Parachutes is a yawn-and-you'll-miss-it song. Yet, we must savour thes glorious 46 second of genius, as this is my favourite track on the album. Before you laugh, I suggest listening to it. Stunning vocals and easygoing guitar. One for the sun, and make sure to press that repeat button, or you'll miss it altogether!

H
igh Speed was the first track recorded off this album in the summer of 1999, and has great lyrics. "Can anybody fly this thing? Before my head explodes, before my head starts to ring". It's chorus is okay aswell, but in the intro where it bursts into the song really reminds me of a Radiohead song. If anyone knows what song it is that it sounds like, please tell me on the comments page.

We Never Change has what seems to be the customary acoustic guitar strumming intro but also has the best chorus on the album and possibly the best lyrics aswell. A very accomplished track indeed!

Everything's Not Lost has a bonus track after it but I'll talk about the main track first. A catchy, lyrically excellent and piano based song, with one of the longest outros since Hey Jude, this one is notable as a completely different style to the rest of the album.

And on to the final song, the bonus track Life's For Living. (In Michael Caine voice) Not a lot of people know it's called that, but it is. Slightly like Parachutes the song, this song is slow and silky smooth, a great song to round off an amazing album.

There is not one bad song on this album and I couldn't reccomend it more highly. There's something for everyone, except for lads who like to sing-along. To you I say "Not a chance, mate". Hopefully they're good live as they'll be at Slane in Ireland during the summer and I'm going. C'mon!!!!!!
