Advantages: A must have, superb sound
Disadvantages: I'll get back to you on that.
Parachutes is a great album, no two ways about it. Right from it's curiously compelling album cover to the sublime, instantly recognizable "Yellow", and "Trouble", this is an album of distinction. I had meant to buy it for months, but, never got round to it. I saw it last week in WHSmith's for £7.99, and so had to get it. It has had several playings, and each time I hear more in each song. "Spies" is a mellow, slightly moody song, and it envokes that sort of melancholy that many songs try to achieve, but fail. "Sparks" too is great, but the real triumph is with "Yellow", the oft played and seldom bettered indie hit. "Trouble" is a thoughtful piece, that begins with a piano solo, letting all know that this is a serious one. These two shine, for me, and make an already good album, great. I love their use of acoustic guitar, and the sound of the lead vocalist (his name escapes me right now!) He sings in an almost not quite awake/not really bothered kinda way, but with great effect. Coldplay seem to definitely be in the same league as Travis and Radiohead, and this first offering may well be a taste of even better things to come, musically. A superb mixture of music and emotion, and a must have album.
