It's tough to review an album that you have listened to for over a decade, as the songs are so ingrained in your soul that it is tricky to see them for what they are instead of the feelings they evoke inside of you. This is the case with Parachutes, the debut album from Coldplay, which I remember first hearing whilst working at my first ...  Read the complete review

It all started with Parachutes! Way back in the year 2000 a little known band fronted by Chris Martin launched this album to much acclaim. Tipped as one of the hottest acts of the year, tipped to make waves and on the back of a breakthrough single with Yellow, Coldplay released their debut album Parachutes gaining instant critical ...  Read the complete review

Despite this albums release being in 2000 before Coldplay had reached their peak of popularity. I still believe that this one of their best. It has a real rawness to it because of the lack of over worked vocals and use of instruments unlike many of their current tracks. The first track on the album is "Don't Panic", ...  Read the complete review

Before the fame around the world and before their front man Chris Martin married a movie star Coldplay released their debut album Parachutes. What first brought the band to my attention was their massive single Yellow which remains a popular track amongst many even though the back catalogue has grown considerably since its release. Coldplay are now a massive band and one of the biggest in the UK, however this is this first album they released in 2000, and was the one that shot them into the limelight they now are in. The first song off the album, don't panic is a really good song for their first, of their first album. It is very well written, both ...  Read the complete review

Parachutes - Coldplay: Coldplay's First Album is still a great listen (199 words)

Parachutes is the first album released by the group Coldplay, one of the most successful bands in the world today. The album was a massive success worldwide, and some of it's songs are still played on the radio regularly today, even though the album came out in 2000. This album sounds very different to Coldplay's latest ...  Read the complete review

Being a fan of Coldplay (mainly thanks to "Green Eyes") I just had to snap this bargain up when I saw it for £2.98 in the Amazon.co.uk January 2009 sale. The album is fairly short with only 10 songs but below I will rate each song individually and rate it out of 10. Don't Panic: This is a great start to ...  Read the complete review

I was introduced to this album by my brother shortly after it came out. I had vaguely heard of Coldplay, but didn't really consider buying the album. After one listening I was absolutely hooked. We all know that they have become one of the largest bands on the planet but I think even on this album you can tell they have a ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Parachutes - Coldplay
by - written on 25/10/08
Rating:

I'm a die hard Coldplay fan, but do prefer them a bit quicker than this album!! Yes it's an excellent debut album but when I compare it to the others it's too slow for me. The great iconic "Yellow" is on here as well as "Trouble". It's another album that everyone should have in their collection or at least have listened to.

I feel as though I am treading osnto a frozen lake as I write this review Coldplay are, like it or not, one of the modern world's musical giants. "How did this happen?" I have often wondered. "Was it just the right time for their sound?" Perhaps a more cynical mind would suggest that it's purely promotion, ...  Read the complete review

I'm currently in disbelief that I haven't written a review of this amazing album, six months after I bought it. Coldplay's debut is a strong, melancholy-yet-uplifting album that exudes beauty from every track. From the opening bars of 'Don't Panic' to Chris's Thom Yorke-esque finale on 'Everything's ...  Read the complete review

Two years since its release, Parachutes is still a smashing album, which constantly spins on my cd player. Reasons for that? Many and various, but mostly the quality of the songwriting, which is really by far the best that came out of Britain in the last 2 years. What surprises me in this record is that it doesn't sound like ...  Read the complete review

Once in a while, that incredible album comes out and you can't exactly put a finger on exactly what it is that makes this so memorable. The songs are written so well with such musicality that you swear that you've had to have heard each one of them at some time in your life, (if not in some other life). An album where extraneous ...  Read the complete review

Parachutes is a great album, no two ways about it. Right from it's curiously compelling album cover to the sublime, instantly recognizable "Yellow", and "Trouble", this is an album of distinction.
