In 1970, 4 men formed the band that would become the inspiration for countless other bands in years to come. Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommii (guitar), Terry "Geezer" Butler (bass) and Bill "Nibby" Ward (Drums) started a sound that would, and still does, rock the world. Around the time when Black Sabbath was formed, the popular music of the time was still all "flower power" and "peace" and Black Sabbath decided to sing and play about the other side of life. They managed to create a full and loud sound without a 2nd guitarist and began to write songs with a doom and gloom sound to them (although despite what some believe, more ... Many Sabbath fans consider this and 1973's Sabbath Bloody Sabbath to be their best albums but listeners shouldn't be under the illusion that they sound similar. This has a very unique sound, not like the grungy Master or Reality or the rock like Volume 4 either This was the album which projected the Birmingham based band to rock stardom and its easy to see why with classics like War Pigs, Iron Man, Fairies Wear Boots and the title track which has become one of the most famous rock songs ever. The albums doom and gloom, slow and rhythmic sound is featured in every song except Planet Caravan. Which is relaxing and isn't what you'd expect from a heavy ... Read the complete review

Paranoid is Black Sabbaths second it was originally meant to be called Warpigs hence the pig witha sword on the front cover. The album follows in the same format as the first album. War Pigs is another production like Black Sabbath (the song)with great guitar work and a message. Paranoid was thrown in by the band at the last minute it is a short (by Sabbaths comparison) rock piece and was their first successful single, it is great when you pump up the volume and has some great riffs. Planet Caravan was recently covered by Panterra off of Far Beyond Driven and has Ozzies voice distorted. Iron man is yet another classic and was voted the best live song it canbe ... Paranoid is one of my favourite albums of all time. It was produced in 1970 but i believe it's a timeless classic. It combines great metal Anthems such as Iron Man, Planet Caravan and of course Paranoid. The sound is unique and reflectes the harbour of heavy metal genre. I would advice anyone to listen to it cause it game me a new insight into some of my inner hidden feelings. U'll like it trust me! Many interesting factors contribute to add mystery and chant to this album. originally it was going to be called 'Walpurgis', a satanist ritual. Then called 'paranoid' cause the original title wasn't appealing to the music ... Read the complete review

Led Zeppelin introduced the world to metal. They were slower metal with blues influences, and Black Sabbath's first album also has blues in it. But "Paranoid" is just straight up heavy metal up your ass. This album just rocks, I can't imagine listening to it back in the day, it blows away a lot of what Led Zeppelin accomplished, even though it took many of the same tools that Led Zeppelin used. Ozzy Osbourne just has a beautiful voice, and the effects of Tony Iommi's guitar can be felt deep inside your soul. The record begins with questionably the best song on the album with "War Pigs". The lyrics in this song blow me away, even today, and ... Read the complete review

Excellent and approachable jazzy prog metal from legendary performers.
Female vocals sometimes seem out of place, and the style becomes a little repetitive.
