Rating:

Japanese Whispers is a compilation album, consisting of a number of singles and their respective b-sides that The Cure released between 1982 and 1983. At this time The Cure had been reduced to a duo, Simon Gallup having left the band after the tour of their previous album, Pornography. Robert Smith s friendship had disintegrated with Gallup, a fist fight ensued and Smith decided to cut all ties with him. Thankfully this wasn t a long term decision, and by the time of 1985 s The Head On the Door, he was back in the band, playing brooding bass lines once more. Another change to the line up was Smith s decision to have Lol Tolhurst exchange the drums for the keyboard. ...

Galore - The Cure

Crowned Review Show Me Show Me Show Me (1077 words)
by Frankingsteins - written on 18/06/08 (Very useful, 56 readings)
Rating:

The logical successor to The Cure s first singles compilation that covered the years 1976 to 1986, Galore picks up right where it left off to include all the singles from 1987 to 1997. The studio albums covered are 1987 s Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (tracks 1 to 4), 1989 s Disintegration (5 to 8), 1992 s Wish (11 to 13) and 1996 s Wild Mood Swings (14 to 17), with additional tracks from the Mixed Up remix album (9 and 10) and a brand new song (18). This isn t as good as the previous singles collection, I might as well get that out of the way at the start. The Cure s output declined in both quality and quantity as it hit the nineties, with albums released in ...

Boys Don't Cry - The Cure

Premium Review Boys Don't Cry (218 words)
by Frankingsteins - written on 16/06/08 (Useful, 33 readings)
Rating:

Somewhat bizarrely, The Cure s debut album Three Imaginary Boys was repackaged, re-titled and rearranged for its delayed US release as 1980 s Boys Don t Cry, replacing some of its tracks arbitrarily with more popular singles and arguably making for a better, if less authentic version of the debut album. Boys Don t Cry itself leads the way, an upbeat post-punk number that s remained popular to this day and doesn t get dragged into the melancholy gloom of the band s later works despite its pessimistic lyrics. Robert Smith s drawl is entertaining to listen to in these more energetic songs, including the similar Jumping Someone Else s Train and the typically punk ...

An excellent display of melodic pop punk. Those that don't like pop punk will probably absolutely hate this.

A decent album of hardcore punk, incredibly fast and fun. Not the best album of this sort you will ever hear, no real depth of intelligence.

Grunge - 2001

Songs are live and there are some comic changes that have been made. Audio quality has suffered slightly and jokes may be controversial.

Great songs, Great band A bit full of themselves

Jones's voice, one great and some good tracks Does get repetative

High quality power metal with great keyboards. Cheesy as hell, and largely derivative.

Evil sounding death metal Nothing that outstanding
