Advantages: Ride It and Love Never Loved Me
Disadvantages: Some weak dud songs here and there
This is one of the most under rated pop albums of recent times, similar to Rachel Steven's amazing Come And Get It album. It's filled with catchy, electro pop numbers with fab choruses and production with a decent vocal from Geri on top. Lyrically and musically it's Geri Halliwell at her best, but it's not her most successful, why? because that's just the way it is - she isn't flavor of the month no more but this is undeniably a great record.
I love the Passion opening, it's so original and sounds like a Latin number - Geri's vocals are spot on this, and she's copying Emma Bunton with her Free Me Latino trademark, but it doesnt AS well but still works. A great opener to a album seriously. Wrongly, this was the first single from this album but i dont think it should have been - i have to admit the chorus is perfect but it's a good song, not a brilliant one but the lyrics in the chorus are so out there it's almost amazing. Now this - Love Never Loved Me, should have been the third single, i have a feeling it could have been here Can't Get You out of My Head, it's that much of a amazing track with great production, it makes you feel good. I think Superstars a little too forced so didnt like that, i atcually thought Surrender Your Groove was a better version of Desire, love the smoothness of the chorus. Ride It, is fantastic full stop - so catchy, i'm shocked it didnt do better in the charts than it did. Always Tommorow is an interesting song, where lyrics are brilliant but Geri's delivery and the production disappoint. Let Me Love You More, doesn't sound too good - it sounds too similiar to other songs on this album. Don't Get Any Better, improves slightly but is let down by a oom-phless chorus. I think So I Give Up On Love, is a brilliant homage to the latter tracks Passion and Love Never Loved Me, with some lyrical connections - it ends as perfectly as it starts - iconically.
I know you're probably thinking, are you talking about the same Geri Halliwell who did Scream If You Wanna Go Faster and It's Raining Men? Yes, but this is the best she's ever been, lyrically it's an improvement, she's even finally identified herself with a style of music she loves that really shows in this record. It's sophisticated, better than her previous efforts, lyrically, musically and vocally a improvement and hence a underrated pop album the likes of PopJustice! couldn't even criticize.
Summary: Great record (third) by Geri of Spice Girls
