It has to be said that Clannad have a unique sound within the folk genre. It is very much a studio based sound with a heavy emphasis on vocal/choral harmony sounds. Many of their tracks are slow and atmospheric and have been used on TV a great deal. It is probable that this makes Clannad the sort of group you either love or hate. To me they occupy a special place in my memory and listening to any of their tracks recalls past times to me. I rarely play their LPs now as I don't feel they offer anything new to me today. I nearly said that their sound is dated but I think this over simplifies the situation as a new listener might not feel that way.
