... time favourite song by the band and also one of my favourite songs full stop as well. Duckpond is one of the slower songs off the album and up until this I hadn't really heard much slow song from the band but they show they can do both styles on this album and I think that's why the album really works so well for them as well, it's a slow song but its still really catchy just because the instruments as so good, the lyrics are still great and above all its sung perfectly as well. Pepper is the penultimate song off ...more

Premium Review Pennybridge Pioneers - Millencolin: millencolin at their best (392 words)

Pennybridge pioneers is the fourth album from the Swedish punk band millencolin, it was released in the year 2000. Its also my favourite album from the band by a clear mile and it was the bands first album to be certified as gold as well and the first album to really boost them into significant commercial success. The first song kicks off the album to an incredible start, no cigar is a fast paced, well sung punk skate song. Many people I'm sure will known this one if they heard it as it was actually on the second Tony Hawks pro skater game. This has to be my all time favourite song by the band and also one of my favourite songs full stop as well. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review close...but no cigar (391 words)

Rating:

A very good album from pop-punk Swedes Millencolin. This album contains a wide variation in songs and also in subject matter. Subjects range from childhood bullying ('The Ballad'), materialism ('Material Boy'), pre-judging people ('No Cigar') and even the cruelness of childhood bullying ('The Ballad'). The proceedings kick off with the aforementioned 'No Cigar'. This is sing-a-long fast-guitar punk-pop at its very best. This is a fantastic opening track and is also backed up by some very witty lyrics. This is followed by a few very simmilar sounding songs, however these just lack a certain 'something', ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Pennybridge Pioneers - Millencolin: Millencolin...maturing (209 words)

If you are looking for something fast and edgy, you won't find it here. What "Pennybridge Pioneers" excels at is its just good ol' fashioned music. It's still "punk" (i.e.- punk riffs, certain song subjects, etc... ), but MillenColin is just starting to mature and it really shows. It's not as fast as previous albums, but the crastmanship here is astounding. Songs are well thought out and lyrics are nothing short of beautiful. The melody and harmony is definitely better than almost every punk band (with the exception of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes) out there. It's just one of those CD's that I can't stop listening to. Premium Review Another Success (303 words)

Örebro's softcore punk outfit Millencolin have added another album to their growing collection of prodigious releases. Literally translated Örebro means Pennybridge hence the album name 'Pennybridge Pioneers'. Nicola (bass and vocals), Erik (guitar), Larzon (drums) and Mathias (guitar) all started off in different punk groups but eventually became known as Millencolin; picked for its resemblance to the skateboard trick 'Melancholy'. After 3 full albums and one Millencolin compilation album consisting of B-Sides and EP Tracks, a new album was born. Millencolin's latest offering retains the same particular outlook on music; the ...  Read the complete review
