Iron Maiden's 1983 album followed the surprisingly phenomenal "Number of the Beast" of the previous year, which guaranteed it some popularity. With new vocalist Bruce Dickinson now firmly entrenched as the band's frontman who could reach the high notes with ease, everyone had long forgotten Paul Di'anno, or just pretended he didn't exist. (He wasn't that bad). The first time the band started really focusing on historical and literary sources, an aspect of their albums that would never die out, Piece of Mind deals with things across the board from the speedy Greek mythology "Flight of Icarus" through the patriotic "Die ... I would personally rate this as being the Iron Maiden album that is the most easily accessible for newcomers to the band. It holds their sound firmly, and establishes a feel that stayed with the band until 'No Prayer For The Dying' in the 1990s. 'Piece of Mind' is generally rated to contain some of the all-time great Iron Maiden tracks. It also contains some of their absolute worst work, so as an example of the range and ability of the band, it comes highly recommended by moi. This album launched Iron Maiden into the mainstream with its speed metal guitar riffs and great vocal prowess from Bruce Dickinson. In a recent interview Bruce said that this was also his favourite Maiden album. It is a speed metal classic. 1. Where Eagles Dare (Feel The Bullets Rip Right Through You). 2. Revelations (A Slow Prayer Which Speeds Up, Brilliant Guitar Solo's With A Soft Finish.) 3. Flight Of Icarus (Ancient Greek Story, Single Release) 4. Die With Your Boots On (Great Rhythm) 5. Trooper (Single Release, A Classic) 6. Still Life (Slow And Beautiful, Transports You To A More Tranquil Place) 7. Quest For Fire 8. ... Read the complete review

This was the second Bruce album and followed firmly on the success of the Number of the Beast Album. The cover showed Eddie after some pretty major brain surgery - this was the first album in my opinion where they started to develop the Eddie story on the covers. The music is classic Bruce Maiden stuff. Personal favourate is The Trooper although Flight of Icarus is also very good. A must for all Maiden fans, especially Bruce fans. Great music from a great band. UPDATE - interesting that I have reviewed a number of Maiden albums. Lookingback this was a short review, but has attracted very little interest from Dooyoo users. Maybe this is ... Read the complete review
