entirety because otherwise it could be seen as a bit of a novelty collection. the first track - Hey Dude - starts off on a low note. K Kula Shaker are at their best when not covering or copying some soft rock tune. The best tracks on the album are those most inspired by eastern cultures: Govinda is the best known single and one of the better compositions, whilst Temple of Everlasting Light and Into the Deep lull oneself into a little jingly jangly bubble that nearly makes you imagine the heat and spices of india come alive in the room. As a bit of a music snob, i d say this is best listened to on vinyl but any format is good! just listen to the whole thing before ...

the band recruited drummer Paul Winterhart and organ player Jay Darlington before going through several names, then settling upon Kula Shaker, a name drawn from an ancient emperor. You see, K Kula Shaker s thing was a bizarre obsession with mysticism, especially of the Indian variety, inspired by a trip Mills took to India prior to the band s formation. This lent a unique quality to the band s music, in that instead of singing about fags, drink and birds, they sang lyrics about lost souls of heaven, Knights of the Sun and random things in the long dead Indian language of Sanskrit.
