When the Jerry Bruckheimer produced Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl appeared in 2003, it proved to be an immense success, generally throwing out bad memories of the last pirate flick, CutThroat Island, in proving that pirate movies can still make box office gold.
