Advantages: catchy pop

Disadvantages: samey in parts

This lot can be quite annoying, but if you take them in small doses, then a smattering of Vengaboys can go down a treat at a party. This was their second album and is awash with pop dance.

Who are they:

Four piece group, fronted by 'vocalists Kim and Denice. They were at their peak in the late nineties.

On this album:

The delightful 'Shala Lala' is one of those playful songs which you could imagine hearing at a kid's party. It has a jovial melody and a cheesy tune which will make you think of being on a beach. Dip into 'Kiss When The Sun Don't Shine' for another slice of uplifting cheesy pop. The girls' vocals sound exuberant and fresh here and the synths give it some added dancefloor appeal.

Other Highlights:

The summery reggae tinged 'Uncle John From Jamaica' will raise your spirits and the robotic sounding 'Cheekah Bow Bow' is good fun, if not a bit simplistic with the lyrics. I adore 'Opus 3 in D#' which is an instrumental and harks back to the group's earlier sound. It sounds like a mish-mash of DJ Jurgen and Ferry Corsten and delivers a spine tingling dutch synth riff.

Avoid:

'24/7 in my 911 ' does not stick to their typical style and seems out of place, a poor show.

Overall:

With a bonus video included and a screensaver you get some added extras, but the ten tracks leaves this feeling a little short and sweet.
