Advantages: Pop-py, Good fun, enchanced elements.
Disadvantages: samey
The Vengaboys *pronounce it with a B -as in Bengaboys* is what i think of as the Dutch version of Steps. Both have... outrageously camp men (I mean, a cowboy AND a sailor? I hear the call of the YMCA) dance routines female lead singers the use of other people's songs catchy rythmns The platinum album sees the 'new' member (like anyone would have noticed) of Yorick (the sailor) who replaced the other one (I have no idea who the other one was). Tracks: 1 Shalala Lala (Starts off with a "louie louie" intro.) This was released and was a mini-hit, with a dodgey video about laderhosen and beer in the Austrian Mountains. hmm. Catchy (against your will) tune and a good feel to it, not one of their best, but still it gets a respectable "ok" from me. 2 24/7 in my 911 Hit the skip button NOW!!! this is terrible at best, very "filler". Actually it does sound like a steps tune ... but this is bad. 3 Kiss (when the sun don't shine) Ah! this is more like the Vengaboys stuff... sexy video, shot in Tokyo, and very, very catchy. More sha-la-la's but this is a dance tune, and yes I bought this as a cd-single b4 i got the album... ok you wanna kill me now or later? I love this one, I think that this is their best. Make some noise for the Vengaboys!! This tune has the tune to another (80's?) song, but I don't know what it is... please let me know if you know, as it's driving me mad. 4 Uncle John From Jamica Another basic Vb's song = it was again a mini-hit, - its very "hey -we're going to Ibiza" - but again it's not... holly-holly-day, steel drums and another dodgey video is the foundations to this song. 5 Cheekah Bow Bow (that computer song) Now this should have been a bigger hit... I know it sounds like "we like to party" and "
;up and down" but it is good!! I admit it loses a bit of it's charm just by listening to it, rather than seeing the video. Also in the vid, there is "1 2 3 -shake your ass dance with me" - which made the song really. 6 48 Hours Pure dance -no singing, a trancey tune that is quite good! turn it up. 7 Your place or mine? Another basic Vb's song... a boring song quite frankly... The "i-e-i-e-i-e-i-" is ok, but nothing great -it also has a "eh-oh-oh" part which sounds like it is from the Police song 'message in a bottle". Get the "skip" button ready. 8 Skinnydippin' Take a Vb's tune - add "take your clothes off" as the chorus and this is what you get. really borinf actually. 9 Forever as one Ah - get your tissues out as this one is a ballad. No actually this one won't tug at the heartstrings as it is so corny and so bad, that no wonder it wasn't a hit. When this was released last summer, it was rumoured to be the last ever Vengaboys song, I don't know whether that was a marketing ploy or not, but I haven't heard from them since. An average song with no real meaning. 10 Opus 3 in D# When this started, I was sure it was gonna break into Fatboy Slim's "Right Here, Right Now" - but no it isn't. It is in fact a very good dance tune (no singing!) that could well be a hit if it was released. ******************************* This Cd also has enchanced elements to it - which I admit I haven't had the chance to check out yet... it has: Video Tokyo: Making of Kiss Video: Kiss (when the sun don't shine) - and if it's the same as on the cd single - its excellent. Sceensaver and Icons and Hyperlink to secret Internet pages of www.vengaboys.com (wow- how thrilling) . Overall, an ok average album. I got it for £6.99 which
is pretty darn good considering if I wanted one single from this album it would cost me £4.99 from HMV. I wouldn't pay full price for this album, but if you like a couple of the songs, and like me you can get it for cheap, get it - why not? :) (The videos are mpeg/quicktime)
