Advantages: Not one bad track, great meaning in the songs
Disadvantages: Not long enough, could do with some more tracks
After buying the CD single "Sitting down here" I ventured to listen to "Playing my game" and was hooked. The acoustic version with minimal music and her singing felt like it was being sung for me. Barely remembering to lock the front door I ran to the shops to buy the album, unfortunately they were shut and I had to go back the next day when they were open. The anticipation was almost too much by the time I managed to get home, take the prized CD from the case and shove it in the player. I commenced my usual trick of listening to the first couple of lines and then skipping to the next tune, but by the time the first three songs had played in their entirety I knew that I was going to be there for a while. Next plan of attack, find the dodgy song that exists on every album, under an hour later I am waiting for the bad apple to turn up and the CD has finished. What no bad song, lets try again. After listening to the album for a second time there were some tracks that I preferred but none that were bad. This became my main source of enjoyment (and that of the people next to me on the train) for almost two months constant. What I found was that different tracks appealed depending on what mood I was in. When she released "Unforgivable Sinner" I was amazed that this didn't do better than it did. The music on the disk ranges from soft rocky upbeat tracks to mellow, meaningful tunes but the common theme is the story. Every track has meaning and sounds as if it is a reflection of her life. My favourite track "Heaven is a place near by" became my favourite because I was listening to this track at the time I found out my Nan had died in hospital. The words say everything that I felt and helped me through a difficult time. This is one of the few albums that I have that I listen to start to finish, without having to worry where the remote is to skip a track. For a new artist she
has come out like a shining star and I look forward to her next album, hopefully it will not be too long in coming. She is a talent that has reminds me of a cross between Alanis Morrisette and Jewel, but with the softness in her voice that draws you into the words. A great buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
