Advantages: May suit folk fans more than punk-folk, good lyrical content
Disadvantages: Moany vocals
Bleeding Hearts aren't particularly well known but they do tend to get rave reviews in the underground music world. Blending folk, rock, punk and politics - they are not exactly the first band to do such a thing but those 4 things have great potential.
Unfortunately, I can't agree with all of the rave reviews. Whilst the lyrical content is fairly good, it's brought to the listener in a fairly bland manner. There's never a great sense of urgency and when it comes to ballads, it's in a Noel Gallager or even Sting type acousticy manner that doesn't really liven the folk music up at all and just sounds very typically British in that "I'm strumming my guitar in a field" style.
The folk punk mixture seems to come out very Irishy and the upbeat parts could be mistaken for numerous Irish-American punk bands, there is no amazing use of instruments, so it doesn't really seem to be covering new ground. I had good hopes for this band but they seem too middle of the road. My preferred songs of the bands, ones with a bit more balls don't feature on this album.
They may appeal to some of you but I recommend you check out their website and give a few mp3's a listen before deciding which album to buy. These chaps are not wild or talented enough for me but they are not awful.
