 ... - After the crackly guitar intro the song is bounced along with a solid crunchy bass line. The song is less tribal than the opener but has a definite awkwardness and blackness about its feel. The guitars slice into the track with swathes of treble that cut like a hot knife through butter. Nick sings a song of sadness about emotional breakdown and separation. Introduction --------------- Prayers on fire is the debut album by The Birthday Party. The record was originally released in 1981 on 4AD records. Despite being their debut album most of the people involved in the record were also members of the Boys Next Door who had released several records prior to this. The name change came about when the band decided to relocate to the United Kingdom from Australia. It is slightly ironic that the band then returned to Australia to record this album.
