Kataklysm is an extremely reliable Canadian death metal band, but this consistency comes at a cost to their originality as each album sounds much the same as the last. Their latest release 'Prevail' breaks the style somewhat by favouring a medium tempo and groove-laden style, and although it's not the most original or gripping death metal album I've heard, it's certainly aggressive enough to merit a listen if you're in a particularly nihilistic mood. The vocals are the strongest point, ranging from a guttural belch to more forceful yells, and juvenile metalcore fans should see albums such as this as required listening, as education in what angry music should ...
