Soulfly doesn't compare to any generation of Sepultura or anything Max has done before (he claims it was inspired by Sepultura sideproject Nailbomb - hardly). But yeah, you're going to get fans who cling onto Max for whatever crap he's doing - i.e. the people who dumped Sepultura because h...more

As soon as I heard one song of this album on the Radio 1 rock show I had to go out and buy this album, this is a great piece of heavy metal music! The album starts off bursting into the track ‘Back to the Primitive’ which has to be one of the best Soulfly songs ever. I prefer this album to the first one because it has a more professional feel about it, it just seems better recorded and the songs sound better. When I bought this album I decided to get the Digi-pak, it was more expensive but it was worth it as you get four extra tracks. The tracks are as follows: - Back to the Primitive - Pain - Bring it - Jumpdaf**kup (feat. Corey Taylor ...  Read the complete review

By far my favourite metal album of the moment, with their new album due for release in summer, i for one can not wait. This is the second album from ex sepultura singer max cavalero and his tribe of merry men delivering, once again, mingling surging, rhythm guitar tracks and roaring vocals with tribal Brazilian drumming. This record is every bit as aggressive as its predecessor, but it's far more experimental, incorporating a wide range of sound effects, dynamics and percussive variation. Primitive features appearances from Slipknot's finest Corey Taylor, the Deftones Chino Marino, Tom Araya from Slayer, Sean Lennon and Arizona rap group Cutthroat Logic. ...  Read the complete review

A tribal assualt brought to us by the all crazy Max Cavalero (ex - Sepultura singer), Primitive has opened our eyes to a new music world. Its blend of heavy guitar riffs, phat bass lines and some awesome bongo playing (!), gives the name Soulfly a true meaning. For some reason, the album really does make you feel like a member of their tribal assault, and brilliant songs like 'Jumpdaf**kup' gets your adrenaline pumping like crazy. Undoubtfully a must for any Sepultura fan (or heavy metal fan at that1), the album boasts songs like 'Back To The Primitive' , 'Mulumba' , 'Son Song' and 'Terrorist'. Extra appearances from ...  Read the complete review

So uninspiring, so insipid. So nu-Metal. This album even has Corey Taylor at his droning, monotonous worst; plus the former genius Max Cavalera spitting no doubt Slipknot-inspired retarded lyrics like "F*CK YOU! AND THE WORLD!". Maybe I imagined that - whatever, I wasn't paying attention. The only highlights on this is Tom Araya on 'Terrorist' and Sean Lennon on 'Son Song', but damn... they must've been drunk and/or desperate for the money to sign up for this oozing pile of faeces.
