This album is one of the highlights of my CD collection, possiblt one of the best albums from the 90s. The best songs are "This is my Hollywood", "Sixty Mile Smile" and "Pure", all superb power chord based songs, but they have an eerie feeling. Some haunting harmonies and bumper lyrics add to the quality of the album. Despite other albums I have where after listening to it a few times you put it back in the rack, this one stays welded to my CD player. Definitely one to get, it's somewhere between Sabbath and Machinehead. The followup to this though, Revolt is a different story.... Its just a pity that ... Read the complete review

Fast, furious, energetic rock/punk. Lyrics with a depressing theme given a feel good factor, a vibe, by the simple genius of guitars and drums. 'Nuclear Holiday', 'Hateslick', 'This is my Hollywood', they all live life on the edge. Every song follows the verse, chorus, verse pattern, and this is my main criticism of the album, there is a distinct lack of variety. One or two tracks maybe slightly slower and melancholy; i.e. 'Copper girl' and 'Fit boy + faint girl', and these work surprisingly well. After recently rediscovering my love of 90's rock music i was inspired to go and give Pure by British Punk rockers 3 Colours Red a listen for the first time in many years and i was surprised by how well the album has stood up to test of time. In the year 2009 melodic punk is something of the norm. With many of there American counter parts flooding the airways for the best part of the past 15 years. I will say that the Hits from this album such as Nuclear Holiday, This is My Hollywood and Sunny in England do stand up favorably to the hits of other bands of this ilk such as Green Day or The Offspring, matching them easily in terms of both energy and melody. RIP Three Colours Red. What a fantastic band. And what a fantastic debut album this is. Why did they have to go and split? It seems they’ve overdosed on lucozade (ok, maybe something stronger) to build up the energy that this album produces. This really was the greatest kick in the teeth to the wave of indie rubbish that was around at the time. This Is My Hollywood and Nuclear Holiday are such awesome songs, taken from the book of how to write a kick ass rock tune. The first half of the album is better than the second, and it does start to get a little samey towards the end but this is truly a great album. If you like very good tuneful rock music you should have ... Read the complete review
