Rvs III - Ricky Van Shelton

Premium Review Ricky Van Shelton: the ultimate balladeer. (1066 words)
by Glasgow Girl - written on 01/09/00 (Very useful, 62 readings)
Rating:

or, as Santana's Rob Thomas might say, "Smooth." This is a longish review (the longest I’ve written to date) but I believe that Ricky Van Shelton is worth the time and effort involved and -once you’ve hear his voice - I’m sure you’ll agree with me. There’s a short synopsis of each track - which I hope will lead you to check out RVS for yourselves. I hope so. Ricky Van Shelton is a very under-rated artiste and worth ‘getting in to’. Great songs and performances Albums contain a few filler tracks, but not many

Country - Alt. Country - 1998

Toe-tapping, twisted country rock None

All but one of the major hits, and a few new tracks; generous playing time A little formularised and samey in places (but doesn't everyone fall into that trap?)

Considered Dead - Gorguts
Sophisticated death metal based in the traditional Florida style. Tends towards similarity.

The Last Supper - Grave Digger
Effective nod to the old school. Disappointingly retro.

Tunes Of War - Grave Digger
Great concept that doesn't impede superficial enjoyment. All reminiscent of older material.

Erosion Of Sanity - Gorguts
Creative and extremely compelling death metal. Diversity means that listeners may not enjoy everything.

Domus Mundi - Hollenthon
Ambitious mix of styles that work excellently together. Occasionally fails to cohere.

Renegade - HammerFall
A good slow song, and some catchy choruses. Mostly a less exciting version of its predecessors.

Rheingold - Grave Digger
Great use of orchestration to supplement, great heavy metal songs. Some riffs are very generic.

Excalibur - Grave Digger
Mature perfection of the Grave Digger style. Not as frantic or adventurous as some earlier offerings.

Dark Of Sun - Grave Digger
Strong title track. Average re-workings of weaker old material.

Knights Of The Cross - Grave Digger
Power metal elements add variety. Softer, slower and less exciting than previous albums.
