This CD brings back a lot of memories to me; namely black eyeliner, black clothes, deathly white complexion and dancing like a maniac. Hang on, I’m still like that! They were called ‘Southern Death Cult’ in 81, then Billy Duffy joined in ‘83 and they changed their name to ‘Death Cult’ and finally in 1984 to ‘The Cult’ (apparently because it made them sound like a Goth band). Beggars Banquet must have felt there was a market for these ‘best of’ releases. I do have the Cults albums but on vinyl and unfortuantly I have no record player! This album is a "best of" album so it has most of my favs on and saves me from buying all the other albums! The Cult are a rock band and as this album cover quotes its "for rockers, ravers, lovers and sinners"! The most well known song from the Cult has to be "She sells Sanctuary". A few years ago they even released a dance version of it but Im pleased to say that it is the original that kicks of this album. If you want to listen to something which you can crank up loud, let your hair down and play with your air guitar - this could be it. The Pure Cult album is a compilation of their best known stuff from 'She sells Sanctuary' in 1985 up to Earth Mofo by which time the band had probably split. For the money, you get 18 tracks plus with the CD a booklet with lots of newspaper cuttings, concert photos and some dubious haircuts.
