Tokyo Flashback Vol.1
by dangaroo - written on 15/06/09 (Very useful, 19 readings)
Rating:
Not really sure how I came across this but the idea of listening to a compilation of underground Japanese psychedelic bands seemed to appeal. The album starts with a progressive track as you will find 22 February 1991 by the oddly named Marble Sheep & The Run Down Sun's Children is pretty good by the time it's built up to a chaotic intense party sound with an awesome guitar riff, it does however take a long time to get there. Mad Hendrixesque guitar playing from the start to finish of "Mainline" by High Rise, another one which goes on for a little bit long though - although you can at least listen in admiration throughout! Ghost is a slightly mad ...

Gadjo Dilo - Soundtrack
by dangaroo - written on 12/06/09 (Very useful, 22 readings)
Rating:
This album is the soundtrack to the 1997 film in which a French gypsy visits Romania in order to look for the singer that his father listened to. The album being a soundtrack is very much a mixed bag,a joyful ride where you think you'll fall off the cliff at times (there are a few songs I'm not keen on) mostly involving the shrilling voice of Monika Juhasz Miczura that puts a dampener on things, cimbalom and strings add a sense of sadness to the song "Nora Luca" contrasting the upbeat more typical Turkish-flavoured Balkan style of Adrian Simonescu. Likewise the lively fun that can be taken from "Gipsy Star" by Frissons is also pleasant. There's some well ...

Trinity & Beyond - Soundtrack
by berlioz II - written on 17/06/09 (Very useful, 79 readings)
Rating:
Ever since the detonation of the Trinity atomic weapon in May 1945, the horrible power of the nuclear weapon was unleashed on the world, and the extensive testing of these weapons continued in a heavy feeling of an apocalypse for decades after the war as carried out by the US and Soviet Union in a close competition in the unstable Cold War years. Peter Kuran's 1995 documentary Trinity and Beyond: The Atomic Bomb Movie is the dramatic exploration of these tests, beginning from the detonation of the Trinity device and finishing with the last detonations of the Thor missle tests conducted in the Earth's stratosphere in the early 1960s. The documentary itself is a sober history on the creation ...
