Quebec - Ween
by Zmugzy - written on 11/09/08 (Very useful, 226 readings)
Rating:
This fifteen track CD is Ween s 8th studio album and was produced in 2003. Although one of their darker records, it is an outstanding accomplishment and a prime example of the bands musical craftsmanship. Ween have never achieved critical acclaim probably because of their humorous and offbeat style that so often disguises their underlying expert musicianship. Their creative achievements are even more incredible when you consider that like so many of their albums, Quebec is home-made: recorded in back bedrooms and friends garages. Their albums are always joyful celebrations of musical discovery designed to simultaneously thrill and disturb in equal amounts. Quebec is no ...

Chocolate And Cheese - Ween
by Zmugzy - written on 04/02/06 (Very useful, 377 readings)
Rating:
genres: upbeat pop, twangy Spaghetti Western instrumentals, 70 s rock solos, traditional country and western, funky synth rhythms and Indie rock. For this reason it is virtually impossible to place Ween within a particular musical category. Despite the juxtaposition of contrasting genres, all sixteen of these sometimes bizarre and often hilarious tracks on this album somehow manage to blend well together. An outstanding feature of the album is a virtuosity of vocalization that is simply astonishing. The two band members seem to have this uncanny ability to impersonate a range of accents and vocal styles so much so that upon listening to this CD for the first time, you ...

Chocolate And Cheese - Ween
by DannoStanno - written on 15/05/09 (Useful, 2 readings)
Rating:
(Buenos Tardes Amigo) and massive guitar slow-jams (A Tear For Eddie). Further songs including The HIV Song and Spinal meningitis Got me Down help to portray Ween as a joke band to those who nonchalantly listen, yet to those who get into this album they quickly realise the talent that these two americans hold when it comes to song writing, guitar playing and cross-genre style. Though not the best album to come from these guys, Chocolate and Cheese is a milestone in their career and is highly enjoyable. It doesn t hold together as well as their previous album, Pure Guava, though it still beats most music out there ...

War Of The Worlds: Bad Astronaut Vs Armchair Martian - Bad Astronaut Vs Armchair Martian
Armchair Martian temper Bad Astronaut's pop direction.
Bad Astronaut exacerbate Armchair Martian's irritating ballads.
Travelogue: Deluxe Edition - Joni Mitchell
Wonderful orchestral arrangements and rich music throughout
None!
Inner Revolution - Adrian Belew
The guitar is back, at least.
Belew continues to produce disappointing pop, several decades out of date.
Houston We Have A Drinking Problem - Bad Astronaut
Some melodic and sad elements.
Dominated by less impressive pop rock.
Here - Adrian Belew
Re-introduces long-absent guitar experimentation.
Mostly Beatles plagiarism.
Ego Trippin' - Snoop Dogg
Lots of hits
A few weaker tracks
Coming Attractions - Adrian Belew
If you were desperate for an Adrian Belew release in 2000.
Unfinished, disappointing new songs and pointlessly reproduced old ones.
Acrophobe - Bad Astronaut
Mostly successful mix of pop, rock and light punk without any of the bad bits.
When it slides into pop punk territory, sick bags may be required.
Desire Of The Rhino - Adrian Belew
You don't have to buy the full-length albums.
It's still not that great.
