Who says you need to be tortured and anguished, and write about painful experiences in order to be creative? This Lightning Seeds compilation is a collection of happy exhuberant songs, with tell-tale titles like "A small slice of heaven", "Joy" "Blowing bubbles" even "Happy"? the list goes on. And it's a pure pop delight from beginning to end - Ian Broudie sounds like a man who's happy and just wants to tell the world. The best song is "Pure", the first single, released in 1989. If you are a lightening seeds fan, or just a fan of general good music all around, and you haven't got this album I recommend purchasing it as soon as you can. It has some classic tunes on it such as Life of Riley (used to be on Match of the day as the goal of the month music),Pure, Sense, and the superb All I want. The other songs on this sizeable album, you are unlikely to have ever heard, all of them have their good points. This rates as one of my favourite albums of all time, and as such comes highly recommended from me. I intend to add more to this opinion at a later date. ... Read the complete review

This album is actually a compilation of the first two seeds albums- Cloudcuckooland and Sense. It contains such classics as the debut single Pure, The Life Of Riley and Sense. The songs were all written and recorded by 1992 and although the main classic songs (especially Pure) are timeless a few of the other songs are starting to sound aged ( in particular songs like The Price). Ian Broudie's production is clever and often subtly deceptive. The lyrics are witty and often clever although some of the songs contents are sickly sweet.
