Advantages: Whacked out beauty

Disadvantages: None

The implosion of Spacemen 3 spawned the organ droned Spectrum and the eternal Spirtualized (Electric Mainline). Pure Phase is Spirtualized's second long player and marks a progression from their debut Lazer Guided Melodies. While LGM had a lovely chrome finish, Pure Phase exposes itself in glorious technicolor. It is really difficult to
appreciate this band without witnessing their live spectacle, but, Pure Phase goes a long way to conjuring up the cascade of sound extravaganza that they produce on stage. This is never more evident than on the opening track 'Medication'. Get subjected to wave after wave of aural
bursts until you lay exhausted gasping for air. Thankfully
'The Slide Song' gently nurses you back with its swoonsome approach and delicate facade. 'All of My Tears' is so powerful it uses a lone string to pull all of them on your heart. While I never understood why 'Let it Flow' was released as a single, taken as part of the whole album it does make its point. 'Spread Your Wings' is a far superior tune that occupies your system in a virus like manner. Sonic invention seems to be at the heart at everything Jason Pierce conjures up. Frequently the frazzled rattlesnake montage that he produces hits the spot straight away, when it doesn't he repeats it over and over again
until it does. A Stereolab type approach that in the wrong hands could be calamitous. Witness the glory of 'Electric Mainline' and dream of the moment ET finally is jettisoned from his craft and tentatively waddles up to Jason Spaceman's house. As he settles in, Jason sticks on
'Lay Back in the Sun' and our Gail Platt lookalike wonders why music at home couldn't be more like this. That is the scope of this album, it is likely to appeal to most people and is light years ahead of the competition.

Completely agree with your op - there is nothing in this world like Spiritualized live. I am at a fever pitch of excitement waiting for 'Let It Come Down'. Great to see Spiritualized on here!
