Advantages: This album show tha band and the very beginning
Disadvantages: The albums did not produce any main stream hits.
Queen is the debut album the band Queen. It was released in July 1973 and was the building blocks of for what was to come. It was recorded at Trident Studios and De Lane Lea Music Centre, London. De Lane Lea Music Centre was a brand new recording studio and Queen were asks to try it out to make sure it was all set for the big bands of the time. This was a massive break for Queen as recording time was not cheap.
The album was influenced by the hard rock and glam rock of the day and covers subjects such as folklore and religion (Something that that is hard to do today)
Freddie Mercury composed five of the ten tracks. Brian May contributed four songs and Roger Taylor composed and sang "Modern Times Rock and Roll. The band also included a comment of 'No synthesizers' on the album sleeve as some critics had mistaken their multi-tracking effects (Something that Queen used for a lot of albums) as synthesizers. Also John Deacon was named as "Deacon John" on the album as the band through it would make him sound more interesting. (O well)
I love this album (as I do will all queen albums) but this is the one that started it all. The vocals were raw by a very flamboyant Freddie and the guitar was welded by a talented and different axe man Brian.
Keep Yourself Alive a rocking song with a great rift by Brian through out. This is a great song when they played it live. Liar another rock song that has deep drumming and bass by Roger and John.
The last track on the album is a short instrumental version of Seven Seas of Rhye. This was in production with Freddie but was not finished in time for the album. The still included this but with you the vocals. The song was completed and added to the next album Queen II.
The songs on this album are classics but really only to Queen fans. The songs show the band as the young adults that they are. I would recommend this album but you might not like it.
Summary: A good album
