Conga Electrica is the 2008 release by New York Cuban styled band Quimbombo. I had relatively big hopes for this but my lack of knowledge of Cuban music has perhaps let me down. I'm only aware of a few artists and this album seemed a little slow in comparison to the ones I knew. The track Conga Electrica is slow, almost hypnotic and whilst it does have some tasty and subtle guitar playing included, the drumming is the key and seems to be a bit monotonous. It's almost like this is an experimental, slightly psychedelic version of Cuban music with hints of jazz thrown in.
