Advantages: great melodic songs,

Only Macca's second release after the break up of the Beatles, this was a more cohesive offering than his experimental sounding first album 'McCartney'. As with his first, this wasnt received with enormous enthusiam from the press, in fact its only in recent years that his first two albums have received the recognition they deserve as classic albums.

After heavy production master peices such as Abbey Road and compared to 'Imagine' (Lennon) and 'All things must pass' (Harrison), this can sound a little bare and ramshackle but then McCartney had retired from public view to his farm for some time and this rubbed off. However, give it a go and you will hear McCartney at his melodic best.

There are a couple of throw away tracks on there (smile away in particular) but listen to Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, an epic song, that goes from melancholy to catchy chorus effortlessly. 'Monkberry Moon delight' is Macca at his raucous rocking best and 'Backseat of my car', is one of his lovliest melodies ever.

The album sounds spontaneous and almost home made, thats not meant as a critisism, it gives the album a warm feel and is a pleasure to listen to. This is up there with anything he has done solo or as a Beatle, as a Beatles fan I cant help but wonder what Lennon might have added to some songs and indeed vice versa but these are great songs as they are. Give it a try!
